Abstract

This article discusses the subject of Architecture and Language based on integrated linguistic foundations and cultural semiotic premises, showing that Architecture is a form of human communication that sends hidden messages that are shrouded by utilitarian considerations and aesthetically obscured. The Architectural system - like other expressive systems- is organized as a system of different signs expressing ideas that are inseparable from the identity of the semiosphere, its cultural norms and historical memory. This article concluded that the architectural system is a communicative object that possesses a secondary Language with complex vocabulary and complex structure capable of communicating and exchanging information, telling about values and beliefs, expressing identity, constructing collective cultural memory, and presenting an image of the world, the Other, time and space.
